Who are the ad wizards...
Carl's Jr. has really lost their collective minds on this one. The new commercial for the Spice Six Dollar Burger fails to accomplish any of the goals they must have had for it. Am I supposed to be hungry or horny after seeing Paris Hilton suds herself up while nibbling on the Carl's mega-burger? Actually I am just reminded that I need to get my car washed. How was it that someone thought that having Paris Hitlon eat a burger was remotely believable? What, did she need to replenish her energy after her latest home video adventure? I mean you just know that she is spitting the burger back out between takes. And is having a figureless girls soaping herself up supposed to do anything for me? (That would be rhetorical, Rich, so just leave it alone.) Common Carl's just make good burgers for us fat guys and stop making my head hurt.

I'm not so sure that they failed. I can't really speak for or against the commercial other than in the abstract (so I'll refrain) because I haven't seen it, but I think they can safely say, "Mission accomplished." I mean, everybody's talking about it. I've heard Carl's Jr. mentioned at least 3 times by different people every day since this commercial aired. Nobody talks about Carl's junior. It's just a fast food joint, not a hot topic. Until now of course. Man, I could use a Double Western, come to think of it.
If it weren't for the fact that I knew it was a Carl's Jr. commercial before I saw it, I may actually have missed what was being advertised. It looks like a car commercial to me...that is, when you can actually see anything besides soap suds and skin.
Upon further review, I think the only person who does not get it is Paris herself. Jason and Rich are likely right about the publicity that this commercial affords Carl's Jr. If they did indeed court intentional controversy they could not have picked a better patsy.
Love it or hate it, Carl's has indeed succeeded in promoting their new burger, which is quite good. I had one before I saw the commercial...after seeing the ad I want another one.
Everyone's complaining about the "pornographic" nature of the ad. The old "you don't even know what they're advertising until the end." Well, I hate to burst their bubble, but this has been going on for years; not just Carl's, but everything from soda to blue jeans. It's just the fact that the notorious Paris Hilton is the poster girl that has people up in arms.
Have any of these people seen other Carl's ads in the last few years? My favorite was the one with the mechanical bull. Did anyone complain? Not that I heard. I say the commotion is because of the face in the ad, not the ad itself. There are certainly other "racey" commercials on the TV these days. If people are as "righteous" as they'd have you believe why arn't they against those too? It's Paris, no question about it.
I agree that many commercials today don't let on what they are selling until the end. That's why I hate commercials and now have Tivo.
